CHANGES TO AGONG’S OFFICIAL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

The birthday celebration of Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong XV Sultan Muhammad V falls on the first Saturday of June.

However, on 26th April 2016, the Federal Government has announced that the official birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V has been moved from the first Saturday of June to the last Saturday of July due to the fact that the first Saturday of June 2017, 2018 and 2019 falls in the month of Ramadan.

Hence, the King’s birthday will be celebrated on last Saturday of July effective from year 2017 until 2021.

With this, the King’s birthday for this year will be celebrated on Saturday, July 29.

Employees within the scope of Employment Act 1955 are entitled to this public holiday. Since this is one of the compulsory gazetted public holidays, it cannot be substituted. All employees [under the scope of the Act] who are required to work on Saturday, July 29 must be paid the holiday rate of pay.

If the employees are not under the scope of the Employment Act 1955 their respective companies internal policies will be applicable.
